Painful Breastfeeding

There are a lot of different reasons why you could be having painful breastfeeds. Often these can go together. A shallow latch is a common reason for having painful breastfeeds but its not the only one.

Tongue tie can cause restrictions that make getting a deep latch challenging. A high palate or a recessed jaw can also cause damage to moms nipples. Oral motor dysfunction can also be a cause of poor feeds. This might look like an uncoordinated chompy suck.

Painful latching is one of the most common causes of early weaning, so getting early support is so important. If you are having pain while breastfeeding reach out to a lactation specialist for help!
